Our tour traces both history and culture through the landmarks of Cebu and Mactan Islands. These islands are the site of some of the Philippines most important history.
Mactan Island is situated a few kilometers south-east of the Cebu mainland and is connected by two bridges – the Mandaue-Mactan Island Bridge (old) and the Marcelo Fernan Bridge (new). Home of the Cebu Mactan International Airport the island is one of the favorite tourist destinations in the country with guests attracted by beautiful beach based resorts and hotels and a wide range of outdoor leisure activities.
The tours starts at the Lapu-Lapu Monument and the Mactan Liberty Shrine which commemorates the defeat of Spanish Soldiers by local native leader Lapu-Lapu in 1521.
Next stop is the Alegre Guitar Factory, known for its excellent craftsmanship and world class acoustic guitars, bandurias, banjos and ukuleles. At the factory you will see these instruments being carefully made whilst a variety of woods are used as backboards and soundboards for export quality instruments.
You leave Mactan Island and continue the drive over the spectacular Marcelo Fernan bridge to Cebu City. We begin here at Fort San Pedro, the oldest and smallest tri-bastion fort in the country. The tour then proceeds to Magellan’s Cross planted by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.
A short walk from the Magellan’s Cross is the Basilica Minore del Sto. Nino, where the miraculous image of the Holy Infant Jesus was found unscathed after a fire raged Cebu to the ground.
Next we drive through Colon Street, the oldest street in the heart of the downtown area in the Chinese district of Parian. Located at the Plaza Parian is the Heritage Monument of Cebu showcasing the significant and symbolic events of Cebu from the time of Rajah Humabon to the recent beatification of Cebuano martyr and saint Pedro Calungsod.
The tour proceeds with a short walk to the Yap-San Deigo ancestral house and Casa Gorordo Museum, home of the prominent families in Cebu and provides a glimpse of the affluent Cebuano lifestyle in the 1700-1800’s.
The tour’s final stop is a significant part of Cebu’s rich Chinese heritage –the majestic Taoist Temple.
